Major Activities of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj

The National Arya Samaj Community Day was another activity introduced in 2004 by the Arya Vir Dal Committee. It was an effort to encourage it’s various branches across the country to organise an activity or project that would benefit or enhance their community. May 26th - Guyana’s Independence Day was chosen as the date for this event due to the fact that this is the day with which we hold in pride and is the apt day to express our degree of patriotism towards the improvement and prosperity of our land, Guyana.

Branches were encouraged to undertake small scale projects that would be completed within a few hours or last the entire day, but not to exceed into another day. Activities suggested included: Painting and/or Putting up of Useful Signs (Traffic Signs, Health Signs); Environmental Projects (Cleaning of Environment); Educational Campaigns (Lectures, Pamphlet Distribution); Charitable Projects (Feeding Programs, Donations); Health Projects (Free Clinics, Nutrition).

Phagwah or Holi in Guyana is celebrated by one and all. At this joyous time of the year, in certain regions, the Arya Samaj organises Phagwah Melas and Cultural Shows. At most mandirs across the country, including the Central Vaidik Mandir, the Annual Phagwah Service (Yajna) is performed. Arya Samajists celebrate this festive season with our other Hindu brothers and sisters across Guyana.

During the festival of Deepawali, Arya Samajists across the country observe Rishi Nirvaan. This may take various forms, either by Special Deepavali Services, Satsangs, Yajyas and even with Harvest Sales in some areas.
