Major Activities of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj

In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2004, the Guyana Central Arya Samaj launched its HIV/AIDS Campaign targeting the Hindu Community in Guyana on Saturday, December 11th 2004 at the Central Vaidik Mandir, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown. Ideas for the campaign were taken from a recently held GCAS National Arya Samaj Conference held in September 2004, in which participants were asked to develop ideas to promote religious values in an effort to combat the HIV/AIDS spread in Guyana. Three random ideas, that dealt with Hindu Identity and HIV/AIDS, Fidelity and Abstinence, were chosen as themes upon which the campaign would focus. It was recognised that the promotion of enshrined religious values of abstinence and fidelity were the most ideal for dealing with the HIV/AIDS issue.

Aim of the Campaign: To increase HIV/AIDS Awareness and Education among the Hindu Community by developing a culturally appropriate public awareness campaign.

A special HIV/AIDS Awareness & Education Page will be constructed. We hope to provide full details about the entire campaign including our campaign materials. For further details about HIV/AIDS in Guyana please visit www.hiv.org.gy
