Major Activities of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj
Arya Sangam is the Annual Fund-Raising Indian Cultural Show of the GCAS. It has been held consistently every year since 1997. This activity was initiated to give the youths an opportunity to develop their artistic and cultural skills whilst at the same time provide a fund-raising avenue for the GCAS. Arya Sangam draws together mostly the artistic talents of Georgetown Arya Samaj, with intermittent guest artistes from the various regions.
The show consists of an array of dances such as classical and semi-classical dances, popular filmi remix dances, folk dances and medleys of popular filmi tunes. Other items include Vocals (Group and Solo), Dramatic Presentations, Poetry, Instrumentals and Fashion Displays.
The initial concept of the show was intended as a showcase for Arya Samaj talents from all across the country, hence the name "Arya Sangam". It was started by the youth arm of the GCAS initially and was run by that body for three years and included artistes from the different regions. Arya Sangam 4 was then hosted by the Central Samaj in collaboration with the Georgetown Samaj after the youth arm was dissolved. Over the past few years the show has grown immensely under the mantle of the Georgetown Arya Samaj. At present, the Arya Vir Dal Committee coordinates the show.
