Major Activities of the Guyana Central Arya Samaj
On April 9th 2004, the Guyana Central Arya Samaj held it's first ever Arya Samaj National Day of Recreation. This event was hosted by the Berbice Central Arya Samaj and was held at the Albion Sports Complex, Corentyne, Berbice. The National Day of Recreation is an event organised and executed by the Arya Vir Dal Committee (Youth Affairs) and aims at providing a platform for Arya Samajists across Guyana to express
their physical abilities in an effort to encourage the development of a healthy lifestyle. The main objectives are to stimulate interest amongst Arya Samaj youths and parents in fitness oriented activities and to encourage Arya Samaj youths to recognise the importance of physical activities as an integral part of development.
The various Arya Samaj mandirs across the country would send their athletic teams to this event to compete for medals and trophies. Athletes compete in Junior, Senior and Adult Categories. Events included 100m, 200m Sprints, 400m, 1000m Long Distance Running Events, Cycling Events and Novelty Events such as Sack Race, Lime and Spoon etc.
